The AMP (Al Mega Podcast) – Elizabeth Mikotowicz

This episode features Elizabeth Mikotowicz, an inspiring young woman who has overcome a variety of challenges, including prison, addiction, domestic violence, and traumatic brain injury. Elizabeth was born in Quincy, Illinois and given up for adoption at birth to a couple in Brooklyn, New York. Eventually, her father got a job at the University of Maine and the family moved to the Bangor area. Despite having a loving childhood, Elizabeth started to struggle with mental health issues at around the age of 12, which were often misdiagnosed. She has since persevered through her hardships and is currently in the process of writing a book, opening a fashion brand, and pursuing her passion for art.

The speaker recounts their experience of growing up high functioning autistic and struggling with bipolar medication that made them worse. At the age of late teens or early twenties, they entered into a domestic violence relationship and experienced a head injury so severe that the skull was showing and the muscle had to be sewn back together. The doctor warned them against any makeup or washing their hands near the wound due to the risk of blindness or brain death. They were prescribed opioids, but upon discovering they were pregnant with their son, they had to go to a pain clinic. The speaker recounts a traumatic experience in which she was forced to take opioids while pregnant against her will. She explains that she was treated differently by medical professionals due to being on state insurance, and was even threatened with Child Protective Services because her blood pressure kept skyrocketing. After she had her son, the trauma and abuse she was experiencing worsened, leading her to take more and more opioids in order to cope. She explains that this was due to the flooding of dopamines that opioids caused, and how it eventually made her body want more and more. In the end, this lead to an addiction.

The woman in the conversation shared her story of abuse at the hands of her partner. She experienced physical abuse such as being held captive, beatings, and strangulation. She attempted to leave after a year of abuse, but was held hostage and threatened. She eventually escaped and went to a battered women’s shelter, only to be told that she wasn’t crying enough and was not believed. She was eventually able to provide evidence of her abuse and was told that her situation was so dangerous that it put other women in the shelter in danger. She also discussed how some victims of abuse are turned away from shelters if they are not providing something of value, such as snitching out a pimp. This is a problem that needs to be addressed in order to better protect victims of abuse.

Highlights

Well, there’s a couple of stores in Bangor that are carrying my product now that I’m down south. I’m trying to get them in the stores down here, but I want to do vendor shows, and I’m really excited about getting into doing vendor shows and getting the brand out there that way and doing fairs and fun little events like that. There is something for everybody. And this print is on all the prints are on several different items. So you can get pants, you can get shirts. You can get scarves, headbands bags.
What we got stuff to show you. This is place mat and everything’s environmentally friendly, and it comes in plus sizes, so we are very inclusive and it’s sized properly. So if you’re a size five, it will be a size five. It will not be. I remember when I was in high school and I was a little thicker and I would go for my size, and certain brands would size their stuff super skinny or super small, and it would always make me feel really bad about myself.
King James retranslated it, so when he retranslated it, he changed a bunch of words, like homosexual. The original word in the original text was actually pedophile. That’s an abomination. Not homosexuals. Not any of that. All the books written by women, automatic blasphemy, automatically banned, or any of the stories that put women in a position of power. And that’s what it is. It’s controlling the masses.. Oppressing women, oppressing minorities. And slaves. Obey your master. They love to keep that one in there, don’t they?
Exactly. Not if it means their reputation. And it’s funny to me because in the Bible, it actually does talk about abortion. The priest gives the woman a potion and only if the man thinks she’s been unfaithful and it’s not his baby. So it’s okay to kill a baby if it’s over a man’s ego. And the priest will give the woman a potion and it’s a curse, basically. That’s how they worded it in the Bible. And it will make her wound swell and early labor, basically.
Yeah, well, not all for me because I’m 47 going on 48. I don’t trust doctors. And if I go to an office where I see more than, like, two signs promoting pills, I’m like, all right, this guy’s bought because I remember an incident when I was younger, teenager, I went to a doctor that my mom was going to, general practitioner. And as soon as I walked in, he looks at me and says, oh, you’re depressed prescribing these pills.
